About The Position

The Precision Machine Operator is responsible for machining plano and cylinder mirrors and lens components to precise size requirements using a diamond flycut machine. This role involves careful handling of parts to prevent damage, measuring critical dimensions before and during processing to ensure specifications are met, and controlling part thickness and figure. The operator must understand and utilize correct machine setups, perform tool setups for various materials, and accurately balance the flywheel and adjust head tilt. Documentation of manufacturing parameters, issues, and first-time yield is required, along with adherence to work instructions and safety practices. The operator is expected to work independently to solve minor problems, report errors and accidents, and support root cause analysis. Opportunities exist to multitask and operate multiple machines to maximize production output while maintaining quality. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a clean room environment.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • 0-2 years’ manufacturing experience
  • Well-developed communication and organizational skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to handle diverse detailed tasks
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and adjust to daily work requirements
  • Ability to read drawings and engineering notes
  • Must be both team-oriented and self-motivated
  • Competent math skills
  • Strong attention to detail and quality

Responsibilities

  • Machine plano and cylinder mirrors and lens components to the size requirements of drawings, engineering specifications and/or II-VI standard specifications on a diamond flycut machine
  • Handle all parts in a proper manner as to prevent damage to the parts
  • Measure critical dimensions of the part prior to processing to determine if the part will be within the blank specifications
  • Control and verify part thickness and figure
  • Routinely measure parts to guarantee that all parts produced meet specification
  • Understand and utilize the correct machine setup
  • Perform tool set-up for various materials according to established procedures
  • Accurately balance flywheel and make head tilt adjustments
  • Maintain process notes to record key manufacturing parameters and issues
  • Follow work instructions
  • Utilize work order report sheets to note process variation
  • Accurately document first time yield
  • Work independently to solve minor problems on a diamond flycutter; report the nature and solution to the problem to the supervisor or shift lead where appropriate
  • Wand production activities accurately
  • Complete quality documentation as required and machine maintenance and incident reports when necessary
  • Develop a good understanding for the QA procedures associated with testing of flycut diamond turned components
  • Multitask and run multiple machines to ensure maximum production output without making errors
  • Report errors and accidents immediately to the shift lead, maintenance supervisor, or engineers
  • Fully support root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Verify all setups to ensure the machine will not crash
  • Follow all Coherent and departmental safety practices and procedures at all times
  • Maintain all areas in an organized manner
  • Ensure equipment is maintained based on preventative schedules
  • Report maintenance requirements and machine or utility anomalies promptly to the supervisor
