The Preceptor in Expository Writing at Harvard University is responsible for teaching introductory writing courses, specifically Expository Writing: Studio 10-Studio 20 and Expository Writing 20. This role involves guiding students through the development of analytical writing skills necessary for academic success, with a focus on argumentation, evidence analysis, and effective communication. Preceptors will engage in collaborative curriculum development and contribute to a supportive teaching environment, while also receiving mentoring and professional development opportunities.

  • Teach one or two sections of Expository Writing: Studio 10-Studio 20 or Expository Writing 20 per semester.
  • Develop and implement course materials and assignments that align with the program's pedagogy.
  • Provide feedback and support to students on their writing assignments, facilitating workshops and individual conferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on assignment design and program development.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to the development of pedagogical materials.
  • Doctorate or nearly completed Doctorate in a relevant discipline taught at Harvard College, or an MFA or terminal degree with relevant teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching fundamental analytical reading and writing skills at the first-year college level.
  • Demonstrated interest in writing pedagogy and innovative teaching methods.
  • Experience in teaching writing in STEM fields, social sciences, or public policy.
  • Strong interest in integrating multimedia and digital learning into course design.
  • Experience designing innovative capstone projects.
