The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the Float Pool at Advocate Health is responsible for assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with the daily care of patients. This includes tasks such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation, as well as measuring and documenting vital signs and other patient data. The position requires participation in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, and involves collecting specimens and performing point-of-care testing. The CNA will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized nursing area, ensuring patient comfort, and practicing infection prevention protocols. The role requires knowledge of age-specific care and the ability to assess and interpret patient needs.

  • Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation.
  • Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs, I & O, daily weights, and other patient data.
  • Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and communicates observations and concerns.
  • Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN.
  • Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing.
  • Completes various errands including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports.
  • Performs patient positioning and transporting duties utilizing proper technique.
  • Maintains skin integrity and ensures special patient supplies are provided.
  • May be required to remove IVs, provide post mortem care, and bladder scans under RN direction.
  • Practices infection prevention by demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile procedures.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days.
  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry.
  • Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
  • Basic computer skills.
