As the PreAnalytic Phlebotomy Supervisor, you will supervise Phlebotomy Services operations at Akron General Medical Center. In this role, you will be responsible for all employment related activities, budgets, fiscal performance and adherence to quality and safety guidelines. A caregiver in this position works days from 5:30AM – 3:00PM or 8:00AM – 5:30PM, with on-call requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Four years of relative experience OR High School Diploma/GED, six years of supervisory or leadership experience and four years of relative experience OR Associate’s Degree, four years of supervisory or leadership experience and four years of relative experience
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires dexterity sufficient to operate a computer.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
  • Must be able to travel to various Cleveland Clinic sites as needed.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires dexterity sufficient to operate a computer.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
  • Must be able to travel to various Cleveland Clinic sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with inpatient and/or outpatient phlebotomy services
  • Beaker and LIS System experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Pre-Analytic laboratory or Call Center operations for one or multiple sites.
  • Be responsible for all employment-related activities, budgets, fiscal performance and adherence to quality and safety guidelines.
  • Supervise and develop a high-performing, customer-oriented team.
  • Provide leadership and support staff to perform quality work as outlined by department and Cleveland Clinic policies.
  • Review and ensure the timeliness, accuracy and quality of work.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels, workflow and ensure efficient utilization of resources.
  • Conduct competency assessments and performance appraisals and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Review/approve department schedules, paid time off and leave requests.
  • Coordinate hiring, orientation, scheduling, and staff development including continuing education initiatives.
  • Assist with policy and procedure development and ensure compliance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve procedures, processes, speed, quality and effectiveness.
  • Assist with annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Communicate critical issues to senior management and/or Medical Director.
  • Lead and implement large process improvement projects.
