The Pre-Service Access Coordinator at The Christ Hospital Health Network is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients during their healthcare experience. This role involves scheduling services, collecting demographic information, processing payments, and ensuring patients understand their insurance coverage and costs. The coordinator acts as the primary contact for patients regarding scheduling, pre-registration, and financial inquiries, requiring a blend of compassion and confidence in sensitive conversations.

  • Call, schedule, pre-register, explain estimates, and collect on patient accounts via appointment scheduling work queues and incoming lines.
  • Confirm surgery appointments with patients once authorization/certification and estimates are complete.
  • Create Medical Record numbers and enter registration information following established guidelines.
  • Collect demographic and billing information in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Identify, document, and provide feedback to management on issues that impact departmental workflow.
  • Participate in activities related to organizational, regulatory, and governmental compliance.
  • Document medical history as obtained from scheduling to complete patient questionnaires.
  • Answer customer questions regarding preparations for appointments, directions to clinics, and general hospital inquiries.
  • Ensure accuracy, appropriate documentation, and reschedules following scripts as written.
  • Train and serve as a coach to new staff, as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associates Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to three years' experience in registration and scheduling required.
  • One to three years of customer service experience required.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office; familiarity with web applications; Epic experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with adversarial customers.
  • Attention to detail and ability to track details meticulously.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Critical thinking skills to formulate general rules and apply them to work; identify flaws in reasoning.
  • Problem-solving skills to independently work through details of a problem.
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
