About The Position

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Preop/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) - Registry in our Outpatient Surgery Center at our Crown Point facility. UChicago Medicine Crown Point brings outstanding adult and pediatric care to the Northwest Indiana community. Its features include an eight-bed emergency department and small inpatient unit, an outpatient surgery center, and a cancer center. The Preop/PACU RN, under the direction of the PACU Charge RN/Nurse Manager, is responsible for pre-admission, preoperative, and postoperative care of the patient. Directs professional and other health care personnel in the delivery of nursing care to the surgical patients; provides patient education; complies with standards, policies, procedures; supports the vision and mission of Ingalls Ambulatory Surgery Center. The position will have a wide range of access to protected health information ("PHI") and understands the importance of confidentiality regarding all patient information pursuant to HIPAA policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with an active RN license
  • Must hold an active Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association
  • A minimum of 1 year of critical care nursing experience
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to plan and lead clinical operations as a member of a management team
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies

Nice To Haves

  • A completed Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing
  • Experience working within an ambulatory/outpatient surgical setting
  • Experience working with the EPIC electronic medical record

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates closely with physicians to assess, design, coordinate, implement, and evaluate patients' plans of care and outcomes
  • Demonstrates the necessary skills and knowledge to provide complex nursing care and delegates tasks to other Care Team members according to unit-specific competencies, as appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Performs nursing duties and documents in electronic medical records
  • Participate in suite turnover/cleaning and patient transportation
  • Pre-admission screening phone calls, medical history review, providing patient instructions, and post discharge phone calls
  • Maintains effective communication and a working relationship with patients, families, physicians, co-workers, management, and ancillary departments, and acts as a preceptor when needed
  • Responsible for the safe administration of medications and performing waived lab testing
  • Participates in huddles, staff meetings, and checks email at least once a month
  • Performs other duties assigned
