About The Position
The Pre-Operative Assessment RN will direct and be accountable for the nursing care of patients in the Pre-Operative Assessment and Testing outpatient setting. This role requires the ability to teach and share knowledge with ancillary services, such as anesthesia, and physicians regarding patient preparation for surgical procedures. The RN must possess excellent telephone communication and charting skills, as well as strong empathy when dealing with patients and their families undergoing surgical interventions. Good interpersonal skills are essential for this position. The RN will organize and deliver pre-operative patient education tailored to the specific needs of each patient. Responsibilities include gathering patient histories, performing physical examinations, utilizing anesthesia guidelines for pre-operative testing if not previously ordered by the surgeon, and gathering and evaluating lab work, EKGs, and surgical clearances.
