About The Position

Clarkston Surgery Center is an established ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in operation since 2009. The staff of this ASC are highly-trained professionals, who are committed to creating and working in a positive environment. Clarkston Surgery Center provides the highest level of surgical services. The staff works to continuously improve quality and service by focusing on the processes that are important in meeting the needs of patients and their families and physicians on staff at the facility. In addition to the general duties performed by any R.N./L.V.N., the nurse in the Recovery room is responsible for the delivery of quality professional nursing care to the post-anesthesia patient. He/She assists in maintaining the overall function of the recovery room and assists in the pre-op area as needed.

Requirements

  • Maintains good physical and emotional health
  • Ability to assess and provide for needs of patients who may be unable to communicate
  • Ability to observe closely and accurately
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Able to work well in emergency situations
  • Maintains neat professional appearance
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing currently licensed to practice in the state of Michigan
  • Participation in continuing education programs
  • Two (2) year general duty experience
  • One (1) year ICU or Recovery Room experience
  • Current ACLS or completion of ACLS prior to annual evaluation; PALS as assigned
  • 2+ to 5 Years Experience
  • RN License (Required)
  • PALS/ACLS/BLS (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of SIS-Complete (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Renders professional quality care to post-anesthesia patients in the PACU, based upon knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
  • Assesses and maintains adequate ventilation: Determines and maintains patency of airway, inserts oral airway as needed Suctions prn Encourages patient to deep breathe and cough Observes respiration's for adequate rate, depth, and exchange. Observes for cyanosis
  • Assesses and maintains hemostats and circulation: Checks vital signs per policy and procedures Observes dressings for bleeding or drainage Makes sure all drains and/or tubes are patent Reports any deviations in heart rate, rhythm and blood pressure to the physician
  • Assesses level of consciousness and promotes activity: Frequently orients patient to time and place and that surgery is over Assesses sensory and motor response - is patient awake, talking, or moving
  • Insures Safety and Comfort: Assures patient is not a "falling risk" at all times Assists patient to progressive recovery room only when patient is stable Assesses need for an administering pain medications as indicated
  • Attends to spiritual and emotional needs Gives emotional support Explains all procedures Respects individual religious practices
  • Promotes continuity of care, etc. Obtains report from OR personnel Includes family member in plan of post op care, considers growth and developmental needs of family members during each interaction Performs follow-up call to all patients
  • Recognizes signs and symptoms of post-anesthesia complication Recognizes shock Recognizes respiratory complications resulting from anesthesia Any post-op complications relating to specific surgery
