A Pre-Op and PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) RN plays a dual role. In the pre-op phase, they prepare patients for surgery by reviewing medical histories, conducting physical assessments, and ensuring informed consent is obtained. They manage presurgical anxiety and administer necessary medications. In the PACU or recovery phase, the RN monitors patients as they emerge from anesthesia, managing pain levels and observing vital signs to ensure stable recovery. They provide education on discharge instructions and necessary follow-up care. Key responsibilities include patient assessment, medication administration, pain management, and patient education. These roles are essential for patient safety and effective perioperative care.
