About The Position

Responsible for coordinating activities of nursing personnel in pre-op/PACU patient-care areas according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the facility. Participates in planning work of assigned areas and coordinates activities with other patient-care areas. Ensures that patient needs are met. Works closely with manager in coordinating patient-care service functions.

Requirements

Graduate of accredited school of nursing
Registered Nurse with active license in the state of Kentucky
CPR, ACLS and PALS certification
Evidence of leadership qualities
Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal and telephone communication

Maintains facility and equipment to ensure cleanliness, sterility, and operational ability at all times; reports deficiencies to manager
Reports discrepancies in services provided by contracted providers (e.g., pathology, radiology, housekeeping) to manager
Supports positive leadership role; leads team by example; promotes professionalism in all communications and activities
Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers
Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner
Promotes effective communication between the clinical areas and the business office and physicians

Acts a liaison between Pre/Post Op staff and manager
Communicates confidentially on business and personnel related matters
Promotes cost containment and efficient use of facility resources
Makes recommendations to manager for potential cost-effective improvements
Assists in monitoring FTE utilization and makes recommendations to promote cost-effective practices
Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the organization’s adopted compliance program

Coordinates patient-care activities with surgeons and anesthesia providers to provide continuity of patient care
Assists manager in identifying and solving nursing care problems
Assists manager to oversee all nursing activities during an emergency to verify that patient needs are met
Participates in primary care of patients as needed and oversees clinical areas to verify that patients’ needs are met
Assists manager to enforce the implementation of nursing practice standards and licensing and accreditation rules/regulations to provide quality patient care
Recommends to manager any revision in patient-care policies and procedures as necessary to conform to accepted principles and practices
Respects patients’ right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
Monitors the care of the pre-operative/post-operative areas and the equipment to ensure cleanliness, sterility, and operational ability at all times
Controls staff/patient traffic to help prevent infections
Prepares daily personnel assignments and delegates duties according to experience and skill level to provide quality patient care
Serve as resource and mentor for nursing staff
Assists in cross-training clinical staff to create a productive work environment for all clinical areas
Assists the manager in evaluating the performance of all clinical personnel and for assessing and continuously improving the quality of care and services
Observes performance of clinical staff members in pre-op/PACU and provides feedback to manager
Ensures that staff implement established facility policies and procedures
Participates in designated committees, to include COC meetings
Analyzes clinical documentation to ensure facility’s policies/procedures are followed
Serves as a liaison among patients, families, nursing, and medical staff to coordinate quality patient care
Promotes harmonious relations and favorable attitudes among the healthcare team
