We’re seeking a part-time Speech and Language Pathologist who shares our goal: to get all our scholars to and through college. The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) plays a critical role in supporting Harlem Gems preschool scholars’ communication and language development. This part-time position serves both Harlem Gems centers, providing direct services, conducting observations, and offering coaching to teachers and families. The SLP will work closely with leadership, instructional staff, and families to ensure scholars at risk of or identified with speech and language delays receive high-quality, developmentally appropriate supports that promote kindergarten readiness.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Valid NYS license in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Minimum five years of experience working with preschool-aged children, preferably in an urban, early childhood education setting
  • Strong knowledge of child development, language acquisition, and early intervention practices
  • Experience collaborating with CPSE, families, and multidisciplinary teams

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech and language services to scholars identified as at risk or awaiting CPSE provider assignments.
  • Conduct individualized and small-group interventions to support language development, articulation, and communication skills.
  • Document progress and maintain clear, confidential records of services provided.
  • Conduct classroom observations to identify scholars who may need additional support.
  • Take detailed notes and share findings with leadership, instructional staff, and families as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate strategies into daily routines.
  • Participate in CPSE meetings and contribute to the development and review of IEPs.
  • Provide families with updates on their child’s progress, offering strategies for supporting language development at home.
  • Serve as a liaison between Harlem Gems, families, and external service providers.
  • Provide constructive feedback to teachers and staff on language-supportive practices.
  • Model effective strategies within the classroom.
  • Design and facilitate professional development sessions focused on speech, language, and communication best practices.
