About The Position

The Pre-K Instructional Assistant/Floating Classroom Support plays a crucial role in supporting the educational environment for Pre-K students. This position involves filling in for absent licensed Pre-K teachers or Instructional Assistants and assisting in classrooms as assigned by the Pre-K Principal. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, collaboration with co-teachers, and the ability to interpret and implement prepared lessons effectively. The assistant will monitor students during various times, assist in classroom instruction, and maintain confidentiality of student information.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing in school readiness, positive behavior interventions, and appropriate redirections for Pre-K students.
  • Willingness to participate in pre and ongoing training programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed High Scope training.
  • Additional early-childhood training.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor students during arrival, recess, and dismissal times.
  • Assist in classroom instruction under the general education guidelines under the direct supervision of a certified teacher.
  • Assist students in following classroom schedule.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Follow all employee practices listed in the Paraprofessional Employee Agreement.
  • Work in close physical proximity of the classroom teacher.
  • Follow the teacher's plan and help evaluate the achievement of students with whom the instructional assistant works.
  • Support classroom instruction and student learning as directed by the lead teacher in the classroom.
  • Maintain established routines and procedures of the school, classroom, and position to which assigned.
  • Follow lesson plans and directions with the support of Pre-K staff in the classroom.
  • Perform all extra duties for the absent employee as required by the building principal.
  • Assist students as needed to achieve learning goals.
  • Use positive reinforcement.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of effective instruction elements to assist teaching and learning.
  • Collect data for differentiated learning, student selection, and evaluation as requested.
  • Maintain adequate records on student work and work cooperatively with student services staff members and/or outside agencies as required.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position as may be requested by the principal or Pre-K principal.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Exhibit professional appearance and behavior to serve as a role model for students.
