Pre - Construction Electrical Estimator

Overwatch Mission Critical

About The Position

This role is responsible for leading all electrical estimating and preconstruction efforts for design-build data center projects. Working under negotiated open Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contracts, the goal is to provide absolute budget transparency while navigating the technical complexities of mission-critical electrical infrastructure. Core Candidate Mission The candidate must serve as a technical and financial anchor during the design phase. They are expected to translate evolving designs into real-time cost models, ensuring the electrical systems—from utility service to the rack—are optimized for cost, constructability, and schedule.

Requirements

  • Experience: A minimum of 5–10 years in electrical construction or estimating.
  • Mission-Critical Expertise: Proven track record with data centers or similar high-reliability facilities.
  • Contract Proficiency: Deep understanding of design-build delivery and open-book GMP structures.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency with estimating and management software, specifically Trimble Accubid, BuildingConnected, Procore, and Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications: LEED accreditation, Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), or PMP are highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Complex Electrical Modeling: Developing detailed cost models for high-stakes infrastructure, including MV/LV distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, and backup generators.
  • Design-Build Collaboration: Actively participating in design meetings to influence equipment selection and system topology while the design is still "on the boards."
  • Open-Book GMP Management: Maintaining high levels of transparency with clients and partners, ensuring all costs are leveled and justified in a negotiated contract environment.
  • Supply Chain & Long-Lead Management: Identifying and tracking long-lead electrical components (like transformers and UPS units) that could impact the project’s critical path.
  • Technical Risk Assessment: Pinpointing electrical-specific risks, such as utility interconnect challenges or specialized grounding requirements, early in the process.

Benefits

  • Overwatch Construction offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off.
