About The Position

The Assistant Director for the Pre-College Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science programs support first-generation, low-income high school students in Johnson County, TX. This role provides day-to-day oversight of program operations, supervises team members, and leads student recruitment efforts. The Assistant Director facilitates after-school college-readiness activities, coordinates and leads field trips and events, and manages the six-week summer program. The overarching goal of the position is to ensure that participants graduate from high school and successfully enroll in a postsecondary education program. Site Locations: Alvarado and Venus High Schools

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience working with disadvantaged youth in educational settings.
  • Proficient knowledge of college-entry processes, including FAFSA, scholarship essay writing, and degree planning.
  • Strong ability to manage details, plan and execute program events, and oversee complex tasks.
  • High proficiency in technology, including social media.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • Personnel supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with college admissions and financial aid procedures.
  • Background similar to students in the program
  • Direct experience in TRIO programs, or other similar federally funded grant programs.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Knowledge of critical systems: JotForms, Google Workspace, & Lacai Database
  • Knowledge of program compliance requirements and federal regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of TRIO regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily team operations to ensure all programming aligns with project objectives.
  • Lead team meetings as needed.
  • Assist with expense tracking and budget monitoring in coordination with the Program Director.
  • Support completion of the Annual Progress Report by ensuring accurate data entry and verification.
  • Ensure programming, publications, and part-time staff reflect positively on the organization.
  • Maintain clean and accurate data in the student database and support all required grant recordkeeping.
  • Produce program reports as needed.
  • Maintain accurate participant records.
  • Complete expense requests and track time and effort.
  • Train and supervise part-time College Access Advisors and Office Assistants.
  • Provide daily oversight of the After School Program to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Lead planning for field trips to colleges, universities, cultural locations, and hands-on STEM activities.
  • Support successful postsecondary matriculation by assisting students individually with FAFSA, college applications, and scholarship applications.
  • Direct and coordinate student recruitment efforts at target schools.
  • Review student applications and recommend selections to the Project Director.
  • Ensure program evaluation data is collected for field trips, events, and other program services.
  • Assist with annual planning for both Summer and Academic Year programming.
