About The Position

This is a part-time faculty pool for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the year and reviewed based on department need. Instructors in this position will teach Trade Skills Fundamentals, the foundational course for the Chemeketa Campus-Based Pre-Apprenticeship Program. Classes are offered on the Salem campus, off-campus at community based organizations, and in correctional facilities. Requirements

  • Three or more years of construction and/or manufacturing experience
  • Experience using hand and power tools safely
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, technical and organizational skills
  • Ability to use technology with students in the classroom and to work with a team of educational staff

Nice To Haves

  • An apprenticeship journey-card
  • An Associate Degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • OSHA certification
  • NCCER certification

Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned classes following approved course outline; prepares and develops materials for assigned classes; provides students and college with course syllabi and recommends textbooks and other instructional material and/or equipment
  • Provides classroom environment conducive to learner growth in a variety of delivery methods (individualized, small group, lecture/discussion); instructional duties and group facilitation
  • Maintains student records of grades and attendance; scores practice tests and develops student educational plans
  • May participate in curriculum development; may recommend textbooks and other instructional materials/equipment; may recommend library and reference materials; may recommend course outline revision
  • Keeps current on technological changes, developments in subject area, and innovative teaching techniques
  • Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates a sensitivity to diversity in the workplace
  • Promotes and applies the college's values for teaching and learning; creates a learning climate of mutual respect and fairness; encourages creative and critical thinking; actively engages students in the learning process; facilitates learning that applies to and enriches students; encourages mutual responsibility for a supportive learning environment; clarifies expectations and encourages student responsibility for learning; and promotes learning as a life-long process
  • Collaborates with program staff to support pre-apprentices and program goals.
  • Embraces diversity and actively collaborates effectively with a variety of students, staff and the public from diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds
  • Participates in recruitment and retention of students at an individual and institutional level in promotion of student success
  • Embraces, understands and uses appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions
  • Provides high quality, effective service to internal and external customers through continuous improvement and adoption of lean office practices
