About The Position

The Pre-anesthesia Clinic Nurse Practitioner II at UC Davis Health is responsible for providing advanced clinical expertise to patients and their families, focusing on the management of chronic medical conditions, routine care, and acute or critical care. This role involves independent patient management decisions, coordination with various specialties, and participation in patient and staff education. The nurse practitioner will work in a team-based environment to optimize patient care prior to anesthesia, ensuring comprehensive perioperative planning and reducing surgical risks.

Requirements

  • 5 years or greater recent experience working as a nurse practitioner on a surgical service or as a hospitalist.
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction.
  • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License.
  • California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR certification.
  • National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area.
  • Graduation with a master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Judgment skills to effectively meet the needs of patients.
  • Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role.

Nice To Haves

  • One year or greater recent experience working in a pre-operative clinic optimizing patients prior to surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical expertise to patients and their families.
  • Manage chronic stable medical conditions and provide routine and acute care.
  • Perform non-invasive and invasive procedures as defined by standardized procedures.
  • Act as an expert resource for healthcare providers including nurses and residents.
  • Participate in patient and staff education.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and accountability for practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Coordinate with various specialties for perioperative planning.
