About The Position

The Pre-Analytic Technician plays a crucial role in the laboratory processing team, responsible for ensuring the proper handling and preparation of specimens for analysis. This position requires adherence to established protocols and effective communication with both internal and external customers. The technician will work in a fast-paced environment, maintaining quality assurance and compliance with regulatory standards while supporting the training of new staff.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; effective interpersonal skills are required.

Nice To Haves

• Associate or bachelor's degree in a science related field.

Responsibilities

• Knowledgeable regarding the combinations of tests and the associated acceptable minimum volumes, as well as pre-analytic variables that may affect specimen analysis.
• Utilize the Laboratory and Hospital Information System independently.
• Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, and infection control.
• Assist in the training and orientation of new employees or students.
• Notify proper associate or order stocked supplies when supply is low.
• Follow Standard Safety Precautions.
• Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers.
• Clean and stock work areas. Complete and log routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and workstations.
• Follow ProMedica Customer Service guidelines.
• Tolerate exposure to disease-bearing specimens, blood and body fluids, and hazardous materials.
• Differentiate colors.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or other Laboratory Leadership.
