About The Position

You’ll be part of multidisciplinary practice at the heart of Buildings & Places — a powerhouse of architects, engineers, designers, planners, project managers and specialist advisers shaping places that deliver real social, environmental and economic value. The practice manager is a senior leadership role with responsible for leading and managing our staff located in our offices in and works closely alongside other Practice Managers to enable the business to develop and grow. Your role Operational Management and Leadership People leadership and line management. Contribute to the successful delivery of the business plan and budget requirements, including productivity, management of overheads and headcount through effective management of resources and developing recruitment strategies. Grow/maintain the team and work with the market and business development teams to engage with clients and actively sell our technical capabilities. Practice and Capability Development Liaise with the Practice Director II to ensure we have sufficient resources with the right skills to deliver our current and future market strategies. Identify work opportunities and foster great client relationships, maximising additional/repeat/follow-on work from clients. Involvement with bidding activities through coordination with the market and Win Work teams and provide technical input from the practice to support strategic bids. People and Culture Enthuse and motivate our people, leading by example and through effective performance and development plans that align to their career aspirations. Provide line manager support, overseeing career & talent development for the practice. Work with the Practice Director II to ensure skills and capacity meet the needs of the target markets through recruitment and focused staff development. Act as Hiring Manager for the team and ensure a flexible workforce is employed either through permanent staff or supply chain. Operational and Financial Management Manage practice team financial and quality performance, including your practice PSRs to return the forecast margin. Build a strong working relationship with the Market Operations Director and Office Leads to deliver regional financial performance metrics throughout the year. Manage and support the flow of work to our GTC and other practices. Support the technical development of staff within the practice team and encourage knowledge sharing. Act as a Project Director / Project Manager and undertake technical delivery as appropriate. Ensure compliance with our Business Management processes & procedures across the practice and manage business risk. Optimise the workload of the Practice delivered from the GTC (to achieve commercial and delivery targets). Innovation and Excellence Lead the practice teams in a manner so that it is recognised for technical and delivery excellence, embracing digital innovations and ability to flexibly respond to business needs. Work with the business and practice developing innovative ideas to improve efficiencies in our delivery processes, embracing automation and standardisation. Practice Led Sales Working with the Office Lead facilitate a culture of strong Key Account Management within the team, ensuring we maximise each account opportunity and proactively position for direct award. Ensure we hold key supply chain relationships to take the best service proposition to the market and partner where appropriate.

Requirements

  • With a degree-level or equivalent professional qualification, you have proven experience in a related leadership role with a reputation for technical excellence and high-quality delivery in relevant disciplines.
