About The Position

At Hackensack Meridian Health, our team members are focused on changing the lives of our patients by providing the highest level of care and coaching each and every day. The Practice lead, Surgical Coordinator position provides a centralized point of contact for operational needs of the practice and serves as the liaison between practice leadership and staff. This posting is for all current Ocean Orthopedic Team Members that are either per diem, part time, or full time status and are located in the Toms River or Morganville office.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma.
  • 2+ years experience in a medical office with 4+ providers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Surgical Coordinator role 85% of the time.
  • Coordinates all aspects of tests, procedures and surgeries under the direction and supervision of the Practice Supervisor or Manager and physician(s).
  • Schedules procedures in a prompt, polite, and helpful manner.
  • Verifies patient demographics and logs patient and insurance information.
  • Contacts insurance company for verification of coverage and benefits and obtains precertification.
  • Coordinates procedure appointments with physicians calendar and adjusts schedule as needed.
  • Communicates appointments and surgical preparation information to patients.
  • Responsible for arranging co-surgeon or assistant as needed and cross scheduling with other departments.
  • Ensures pre-op procedures are followed consistently, including completion of surgical documentation.
  • Schedules pre-surgery appointments with physicians and obtains medical clearances.
  • Coordinates required postoperative care under the direction of the provider.
  • Obtains surgical billing information from physicians and works with coding department.
  • Tracks all procedures including completed and pending cases.
  • Provides excellent customer service and promotes high levels of service.
  • Adapts work schedule to meet the needs of the practice and works additional hours as requested.
  • Performs assignments with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Daily review of schedule and works with Supervisor/Manager to ensure all appointment slots are filled.
  • Acts as a location resource for all clinical Epic documentation.
  • Point of contact for IT and equipment needs.
  • Onsite point of contact for any facility issues.
  • Informs leader of needs and may place orders as directed.
  • Escalates any staff concerns to the immediate leader.
  • Hands-on training of all new hires.
  • Day-to-day oversight of Environment of Care audits.
  • Reports workplace injuries within 24 hours.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
