About The Position

The Practice Assistant role provides legal and administrative support to various practice groups in the office. The Practice Assistant works closely with Legal Secretaries, Paralegals, and Attorneys as it relates to the workflow of the assignments and designated aspects of a case.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Paralegal Studies or related field highly preferred.
  • One or more years of related experience required; experience in a law firm supporting paralegals and/or attorneys is highly preferred.
  • Professional, organized self-starter with the ability to interact with attorneys, staff, and clients at all levels in a fast-paced, challenging legal work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.
  • Experience with cite checking highly preferred.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Mailing and creation of binders.
  • Preparing expense reports, check requests, and new business memos.
  • Creating, revising and formatting legal documents.
  • Compiling documents in support of briefs and witness interviews, organizing document production and preparing detailed indices for attorney review.
  • Assisting in maintaining records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
  • Assisting with investigations and gathering the facts of a case.
  • Contacting clients, witnesses, lawyers, and outside vendors to schedule interviews, meetings, and depositions.
  • Assisting with filing exhibits, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents as needed.
  • Preparing, organizing, storing, and retrieving case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, and other items.
  • Writing and summarizing reports to assist attorneys with trial preparation.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
