With 388 beds it is the second largest of Duke Health's four hospitals and offers a comprehensive range ofmedical, surgical, and diagnostic services, including orthopedics, weight-loss surgery, women's services, and heart and vascular services. Job Summary The Practice Administrator provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership for multiple ambulatory clinic locations within an assigned service area. Clinics under the Practice Administrator's leadership meet defined criteria for scope based on FTE count, patient volume, clinical complexity, and operational footprint. The Practice Administrator ensures high-quality patient care, financial sustainability, and operational efficiency across all assigned locations. This role partners with physician and advanced practice provider leadership, Nurse Managers, Clinic Managers, and the Ambulatory Operations Director to drive service line performance and align operations with DUHS goals, regulatory standards, and patient experience expectations.   Location: Position is responsible for supporting 3 clinics: DRH HSC Weight Loss Surgery and DRH HSC Vascular Surgery at 407 Crutchfield St, Durham, NC 27704 and Clinic 2B2C on campus at DUH at 40 Duke Medicine Cir, Durham, NC 27710   Hours: Full-time 40 hours a week regular 9-5, meeting the needs of the clinics.  

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills in a multi-site environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ambulatory operations, financial management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to lead through influence and foster collaboration across multiple disciplines.
  • Proven skills in budget development, performance improvement, and change management.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, business, or relatedfield required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in ambulatory or hospital operations, with at least two years in a leadership role managing multiple clinic or departmental locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, business, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in ambulatory or outpatient clinic operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall operational leadership and administrative oversight for multiple ambulatory clinics, ensuring alignment with service line and DUHS strategic goals.
  • Partner with physician, APP, and nursing leadership to optimize clinical operations, patient access, and care quality across all sites.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor clinic budgets, including payroll, capital, and operating expenses; implement strategies for cost control and revenue growth.
  • Oversee recruitment, selection, development, and evaluation of administrative and clinical leaders (Clinic Managers, Nurse Managers) within assigned clinics.
  • Lead the implementation of standard work processes, performance improvement projects, and patient experience initiatives across all locations.
  • Monitor compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, safety, and infection control requirements across assigned clinics.
  • Analyze operational and financial performance data; develop and execute action plans to address identified gaps or opportunities.
  • Serve as liaison between assigned clinics and service line, system leadership, and external partners; represent clinics in system-level initiatives.
  • Coordinate operational support for providers, ensuring appropriate resource allocation, clinic infrastructure, and operational readiness.
