About The Position

This position is located at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Allergy Service , Fort Cavazos, Killeen,TX Fort Cavazos is a United States Army post located in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. The post is named after Gen. Richard E. Cavazos, a native Texan and the US Army’s first Hispanic four-star general. Formerly named Fort Hood for Confederate General John Bell Hood, the post is located halfway between Austin and Waco, about 60 mi from each, within the U.S. state of Texas. The post is the headquarters of III Armored Corps and First Army Division West and is home to the 1st Cavalry Division and 3rd Cavalry Regiment, among others. Its origin was the need for wide-open space to test and train with World War II tank destroyers. The War Department announced the location in January 1942, and the initial completion was set for that August. As originally constructed, Fort Cavazos had an area of 158,706 acres, with billeting for 6,007 officers and 82,610 enlisted personnel. • In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. • Basic Requirement for Practical Nurse : Licensure : A current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia; OR must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained.
• In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below: Experience : One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility performing duties such as measuring patient's vital signs, administering immunizations or medications via various routes, screening or updating patient medical records and performing routine procedures. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
• Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Responsibilities

• Obtaining and documenting medical complaint and taking vital signs, EKG, Ankle-Brachial Index, and Pulmonary Function Testing as indicated.
• Completes appropriate records and reports, as well as support the goals and mission of the Cardiology and Pulmonary Services.
• Assists with a variety of diagnostic procedures such as Bronchoscopies, Pleural catheter and chest tube placements, Fluoroscopies and Ultrasounds.
• Monitor patients during and after sedation.
• Teach patients and family members on the use of prescribed medications and direct them to the hospital in case of an emergency.
• Prepares allergy testing vials for performance of intradermal testing (IDT).
• Performs Other Duties as Assigned
