About The Position

Orica is hiring a Product and Process Technician/Technologist to support bulk explosives manufacturing and field applications.   This position will specialize in explosives manufacturing, safety, reliability and field applications. Responsibilities include troubleshooting manufacturing systems and instrumentation, assisting with lab work, and requires either a foundational knowledge of chemistry or an aptitude towards learning basic chemistry. Role will include the delivering technical support on manufacturing equipment, conducting plant and field audits, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented to prevent product complaints. The role also involves identifying opportunities to maximize overall bulk profit margins by driving innovative solutions that continuously reduce product application costs.   Orica has been recognized as one of the top companies for women to work for in the transportation industry by the Women in Trucking Association (WIT) in 2023 and 2024.   Orica does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role. Requirements

  • Experience in instrument and controls activities in a manufacturing facility preferred
  • Expert understanding of processes, manufacturing plants, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of electronics, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and pumps.
  • Chemical aptitude.
  • Project management experience.
  • Familiar with troubleshooting instruments & controls of PLC
  • Must be able to analyze and execute problem solving techniques.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team setting as well as be a self-starter that can multitask.
  • Strong interpersonal, team building, and communication skills at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with wide variety of customers including miners, engineers, operations, and management.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of SAP is a plus.
  • Occasional fieldwork environment in all types of weather and harsh climates –40ºC to +40ºC.
  • Moderate physical stress and occasional long hours.
  • Extensive travel both domestic and international (up to 50%)
  • Require activities include sitting, walking, reaching, bending, frequent use of hands and occasional lifting up to 55 pounds.
  • Possible requirement of driving long distances for travel to remote sites.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (process, chemical, mechanical, industrial)
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of hands-on experience as an Instrumentation Technician, Electrician, or Industrial Controls Technician in a utility, manufacturing, or process plant environment
  • Associate's degree/certificate in instrumentation, electromechanical, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment in company-wide Deliver the Promise Goal of Safety, Health & Environment.
  • Mentor employees and customers in safe working practices.
  • Participate in Hazard Studies and ensure proper implementation of Change Notices and New Equipment Inspections at Orica’s plants and field sites.
  • Support the Basis of Safety within all explosive businesses.
  • Product specialist for the Emergency Response plan
  • Work with Team Leader PPIS NA to deliver specific field activities to reach defined goals within acceptable time frames.
  • Assist with new programs for proper operator training, customer field demonstrations and hand-over to business completion.
  • Lead audits of bulk plants and field equipment for safe and proper operation.
  • Review manufacturing and loading specifications driving quality products delivery to customers.
  • Guide development group to bring new products and services into the field successfully.
  • Design, manage controls, calibration and repair oversight of instrumentation and PLC control in ANE manufacturing plants
  • Oversee installation, program, test, troubleshoot, and optimize industrial automation and control systems to ensure reliable equipment performance.
  • Implementation of updated processes to reduce operational costs, improve business efficiencies and increase product profit margins.
  • Ensure Orica protocols are followed in product introduction process.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams on process improvements, system upgrades, and equipment reliability initiatives.
