You will collaborate closely with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and customers to deliver technical solutions that meet system requirements and exceed expectations. As a Customer Engineer, you will focus on improving powertrain integration processes, standardizing transmission integration practices, and providing expert guidance on powertrain performance requirements. Your responsibilities will include assessing program decisions for their impact on system performance, coordinating integration activities within project scope, and supporting technical discussions with customers and suppliers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of vehicle systems and testing methodologies, with experience or a keen interest in control system calibration and validation. Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Matlab, familiarity with vehicle-level data acquisition techniques (e.g., CANalyzer), and structured problem-solving skills (e.g., 7-step process) are essential. Basic project management capabilities, including schedule tracking, and the ability to communicate effectively in technical discussions will set you up for success in this role. A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, though candidates from Electrical Engineering programs are welcome. The role is based at the Cummins Machine Integration Center (CMIC) and requires on-site presence with flexibility. The anticipated start date is early 2026. In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: Investigate and Resolve Issues: Diagnose integration and installation problems, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and document outcomes with guidance from senior team members. Enhance Processes and Tools: Apply and support improvements in processes such as Installation Quality Assurance and OEM integration, leveraging tools like Advisor, COLS, and GCE for high-quality decision-making. Collaborate with Experts: Obtain input and negotiate with Subject Matter Experts and VPI Teams to deliver accurate product data and installation requirements to Application Engineers and OEMs. Drive Product Decisions: Make informed decisions on product selection, design, and integration that influence OEM machine performance, optimization, and quality. Build Customer Relationships: Develop strong technical partnerships with customer counterparts, serving as the primary liaison for technical information, specification management, and issue resolution. Translate Customer Needs: Convert customer requirements and feedback into functional product specifications, ensuring alignment with market expectations and system requirements. Advocate for Customers: Represent customer and market interests during new product development, design reviews, and product change processes to ensure optimal solutions. Ensure Installation Quality: Validate prototype machine performance and confirm installations meet Cummins standards, while independently executing established processes and contributing to continuous improvement.
