Toyota's Powertrain Design (PDE) team is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Powertrain Design Engineer who is interested in conventional (ICE and A/T), hybrid, and electrified powertrain systems. This role primarily focuses on supporting Model Life Management with cost reduction, quality improvement, and additional part localization for existing ICE engines in the North American market. The successful candidate will collaborate with various stakeholders, including suppliers, supplier development teams, purchasing departments, assembly plants, and TMC engine design teams. The position is crucial in achieving the department's objective of building "World Class Powertrains in North America." The role is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and requires the selected candidate to reside within a commutable distance from this location. The work environment will be a hybrid mix of in-office and remote work. In this position, you will utilize your knowledge of the Toyota Design Process and Standards to produce typical design team deliverables, including 3D models, 2D drawings, technical reports, and instruction sheets. You will attend routine Design Reviews and report key metrics related to your designs. Additionally, you will develop countermeasures to meet design targets such as cost, mass, and fatigue strength based on evaluation and quotation results. Building relationships with key stakeholders, including drivetrain and vehicle design teams, TMC engine design, purchasing, and assembly plants, will be essential. You will also project manage North American suppliers to ensure timely delivery of quality parts that align with Toyota's milestones. Furthermore, you will be responsible for process improvements to enhance PDE's design process capabilities, ensuring quality and timely delivery of design deliverables, and benchmarking similar designs to maintain competitiveness in terms of cost and customer expectations.
