About The Position

The City of High Point's Electric Department is looking to hire multiple Powerline Technicians at various levels (I, II, and III). This role involves performing essential installation, maintenance, and repair work on both low and high voltage electrical lines, ensuring the reliability and safety of the city's electrical system.

Requirements

• 2 years of experience in electrical line work or a related field.
• Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to electrical work.
• Ability to operate line trucks and bucket trucks safely.

Nice To Haves

• Certification in electrical line work or related field.
• Experience with tree trimming and removal in relation to power lines.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation, maintenance, and repair work on low and high voltage electrical lines.
• Maintain, install, and repair hardware, fuses, transformers, and related equipment associated with the operation of the City's electrical system.
• Cut down, trim, and remove trees, shrubs, and other growth away from power lines, rights-of-way, and easements.
• Install, maintain, and remove poles, cross arms, substation apparatus, and various other equipment.
• Install and maintain streetlights, security lights, and other equipment within the lighting system.
• Install overhead and underground services.
• Perform required line work on energized and de-energized circuits.
• Provide 24-hour standby for emergency operational assistance under adverse weather conditions as needed.
• Drive and operate line trucks, bucket trucks, and auxiliary vehicles and equipment when needed.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
• Handle trouble calls on a rotation schedule within 6 months of hire date.
