The Power Systems Intern position at Hitachi Energy is designed for students currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program or excellent master's students in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The intern will engage in research and development activities focused on distribution network management, including simulation of grid scenarios and development of innovative solutions using data analytics and machine learning. This role emphasizes collaboration with research scientists and requires effective communication of technical findings.

  • Perform literature survey and review to explore state-of-the-art topics in distribution network management.
  • Simulate current and future distribution grid scenarios including emerging technologies.
  • Develop novel solutions for distribution network management with a focus on data analytics and optimization.
  • Create proof-of-concept experiment/simulation setups for validating proposed methodologies.
  • Collaborate with research scientists within Hitachi Energy Research.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations on work accomplished during the internship.
  • Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering or an excellent senior-year master's student with relevant experience.
  • Work authorization to permit employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Conceptual understanding of transmission and distribution network operation, modeling, and control.
  • Working knowledge of distribution system concepts such as outage management and state estimation.
  • Familiarity with graph theory concepts.
  • Ability to work with software GUI applications.
  • Prior experience with distribution network modeling and power flow is beneficial.
  • Comfortable programming in Python or C/C++.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a team.
  • Prior experience with distribution network automation.
