About The Position

The Field Service Technician is responsible for basic troubleshooting and repair of engines and generators in Power Systems and Industrial applications. The role requires some knowledge with Caterpillar or other OEM Power Systems engines and equipment. High safety standards and a commitment to safety is expected.

Requirements

  • Some technical skills and proficiency in troubleshooting engines and generators, including strong problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed organizational and self-motivational skills
  • Excellent work ethic with safety, quality, and customer service being a priority.
  • Completion of all required Caterpillar training in preparation for Advanced Field Tech
  • Knowledge and understanding of engine/generator theory and operation.
  • This position requires long hours/days working out of town, including evenings, nights, and weekends with exposure to the elements (heat/cold).
  • Must have an excellent safety record as safety will be the top priority with a commitment to follow Wheeler safety policies.
  • High proficiency in using Microsoft products (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Windows Operating System.)
  • Must be willing to work overtime even on short notice as the need arises.
  • Professional attitude and appearance.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) with clean driving history required.
  • Must own a complete set of tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Some power generation field service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately follow detailed instructions and accomplish work with minimum supervision.
  • Possess and develop the ability to work in high pressure situations while maintaining a professional attitude.
  • Diagnose customer machines, engines and generators and make recommendations for repairs.
  • Perform repairs to engines, generators, and other electrical equipment related to the EPG industry.
  • Rebuild engine/generator components including fuel, cooling, lubricating, and electrical systems.
  • Remove and install engines/generators in equipment chassis, enclosures, and skids.
  • Remove and install components on engines and generators, in and out of chassis, enclosures, and skids.
  • Perform all some component and engine assembly and disassembly with supervision.
  • Possess the ability to install and operate all relevant testing and diagnostic equipment required for the work being performed.
  • Provide technical support to less experienced technicians as required.
  • Document time and work performed in a precise, detailed manner, and complete all required paperwork daily.
  • Manage parts orders, warranty information, service reports, and other documentation required to complete repairs.
  • Complete all applicable Wheeler and Cat sponsored training.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
