The position involves creating advanced applications for Energy Management Systems (EMS) within a multi-disciplinary team at AspenTech. The role focuses on enabling customers to efficiently monitor and manage complex transmission networks, ensuring reliable security analysis and effective strategies for system emergencies in their transmission grids.

  • Design, develop and test software applications used in the power systems industry.
  • Analyze customer requirements and develop software application designs that satisfy those requirements.
  • Develop product documentation for software applications.
  • Design theoretical algorithms and implement them in software applications.
  • Create test procedures and perform testing including unit and algorithm proof testing.
  • Maintain existing power system software applications and internal tools.
  • Perform technical reviews on development work products.
  • Stay up to date with the latest NERC/FERC standards and power system engineering industry developments.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, BSEE with Power Systems Emphasis, Mathematics or related technical field.
  • 1+ years of job-specific experience in the power systems domain.
  • Understanding of power systems concepts in generation, transmission, distribution, distributed energy resources (DER)/DER integration and/or outage management.
  • Proficiency with analytical tools, e.g., MATLAB, PSLF, CYME, PowerWorld or other similar tools.
  • Exposure to Transient Switching studies using EMTP/EMTDC/PSCAD or equivalent software.
  • Proficiency in C, C++ and/or C# coding (school or work setting).
  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering with Power Systems Emphasis, Mathematics or related technical field.
  • Demonstrated understanding/application of knowledge in areas of power flow, state estimation, DER control and network optimization.
  • Previous experience, exposure or interest in high voltage Electrical Power Systems.
  • Experience developing software in a commercial setting using C, C++ and/or C#.
