As a Power System SCADA Engineer at Southern California Edison (SCE), you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and supporting SCADA systems that monitor and control SCE's extensive network of electrical substations and third-party energy resources. Your work will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner air, aligning with SCE's mission to innovate and lead in the clean energy sector.

  • Perform inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/troubleshooting, and overall improvements.
  • Ensure system event assessments and root cause analysis (RCA) are performed for equipment failures and implement corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conduct independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Perform power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stay informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology.
  • Ensure the performance of day-to-day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards including Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality and environmental and reliability standards.
  • Help ensure infrastructures supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle.
  • Develop the engineering facility design, including but not limited to electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one-line diagrams, and selecting equipment.
  • Assist in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system functionality and quality of service to customers.
  • Act as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.
  • Experience in EMS/SCADA/Process Control Systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and extensive skills in Instrumentation and Control technologies.
  • Experience with DNP 3.0, Modbus, and Inter Control Center Protocol (TASE2/ICCP).
  • Demonstrate experience working with automation devices/equipment.
  • Knowledge of the SCE Electric System and the role that SCADA/Remote Telemetry plays in the operation of SCE Transmission, Sub Transmission, and Distribution systems.
  • Good analytical skills to troubleshoot complex problems related to real-time systems.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, and customer-focused to understand and appropriately respond to clients' business needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaborate with end-users, vendors, project teams, management, and external working groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze, prepare and present project information, and make sound decisions that have moderate to significant business impact.
  • Experience leading and coordinating projects, with the ability to manage high volumes of work and meet multiple critical milestones.
