About The Position

The Power System Coordinator II position is responsible for ensuring that the Burlington Electric Department (BED) distribution system operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role involves monitoring and operating the Outage Management System (OMS), managing system disturbances, and ensuring compliance with safety rules. The coordinator will also operate BED's Gas Turbine via Human Machine Interface (HMI) and will be involved in various operational tasks to maintain high-quality service for BED's customers. The position requires collaboration with other personnel and effective communication with system operators of interconnected power systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma with certification of completion of a two-year engineering technical program or related field, completion of a recognized lineworker training program, or completion of an apprentice electrician's program.
  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience in an electric utility, including two (2) years' experience in electric utility control room.
  • Experience with SCADA is required.
  • Understanding of electricity, excellent math, communication (written and oral) skills, and exceptional decision-making skills.
  • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database.
  • Ability to perform calculations, enter data, maintain records, and prepare reports.
  • Proficient with the use of electrical one-line diagrams.
  • Ability to operate a 2-way radio system in compliance with BED's policies.
  • Ability to prepare and execute mistake-free switching orders.
  • Ability to create, follow, and issue complex written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Verify hourly line loading and generation.
  • Monitor and operate the Outage Management System (OMS) to detect, locate, and respond to distribution system outages.
  • Enter trouble tickets and outage information into BED's work management system.
  • Work with other BED personnel to correct system disturbances and unplanned outages.
  • Ensure that switching, tagging, and work activity conform to safety rules.
  • Direct the de-energizing and re-energizing of distribution equipment.
  • Call in Distribution personnel Technicians and metering for various critical SCADA alarms.
  • Notify BED personnel in various departments of the need to respond to issues.
  • Update written operating procedures as directed by supervisor.
  • Perform around-the-clock surveillance of the BED electrical system via SCADA.
  • Communicate and coordinate with System Operators of interconnected power systems.
  • Prepare incident reports, trouble reports, and switching guides.
  • Provide customer service duties during non-business hours.
  • Perform building security functions.
  • Enter work orders/service orders during non-business hours.
  • Train Power System Coordinator I and other employees as assigned.
  • Implement ISO-NE /VELCO/BED system contingency procedures as warranted.
  • Monitor all 'Dig-Safe' requests as required.
