About The Position

Kimley-Horn's Boca-Delray, Florida (FL) office is seeking a Power Studies Engineer with 10+ years experience to join their Electrical team. With a focus on serving clients within the power delivery and renewable energy sectors, the Power Studies Engineer will act as a technical expert in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems. This is not a remote position.

Requirements

  • 10+ years' experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC
  • 1+ years' project management experience
  • EIT certification or path to move towards certification is preferred
  • Experience with CYMCAP, SKM, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, PSCAD, WinIGS, or CDEGS preferred
  • Understanding or willingness to learn the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies
  • General understanding of engineering and energy systems
  • Basic theory and methodology of Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for power delivery or generation projects
  • Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support
  • Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards
  • Perform studies including Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM
  • Conduct Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis
  • Execute Thermal Ampacity studies using software like AmpCalc or CYMCAP
  • Carry out Grounding studies using WinIGS, CDEGS, or SKM
  • Perform Ground Mat Transient studies using PSS/E, PSCAD, or PSLF
  • Conduct Harmonic studies using ETAP or transient software
  • Develop relay settings using SEL AcSELerator
  • Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for power delivery and/or renewable energy projects
  • Continually gain knowledge in the industry.
