Requirements

  • Possess a current Massachusetts 2nd Class Fireman’s License or higher.
  • Must hold, or be able to obtain, a Massachusetts Hoisting License for classifications 1C and 3A.
  • Must hold a valid driver license.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, multimeters, and specialized tools as required.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work on your feet for 12 hour periods.
  • Ability to navigate throughout the heating plant and multiple levels using stairs and ladder climbing.
  • Demonstrated/demonstrable experience working with computers, instrumentation equipment, and control systems.
  • Ability and willingness to learn the control systems, data logging, and other systems as required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain steam boilers, boiler burner equipment, fuel handling equipment, and boiler feed water equipment.
  • Acknowledge and take corrective action in response to all system alarms under the direction of the Shift Lead.
  • Operate and maintain air compressors, air dryers, and related equipment to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Operate and maintain the emergency electric power generator, including transferring plant power during outages.
  • Maintain process equipment and coordinate maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform daily water tests on boiler feed water and condensate, and adjust chemical treatments.
  • Observe and record pressure, temperatures, makeup water, condensate return, and fuel consumption.
  • Perform routine lubrication, flushes, drains, and oil changes on equipment.
  • Perform pump transfers as directed by Shift Leads.
  • Perform general manual work such as cleaning stations and opening and closing valves and manways.
  • Perform minor maintenance repairs.
  • Log and report relevant data and readings.
  • Remain on duty until properly relieved and provide a thorough turnover to the next shift.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures required by Williams College under the applicable general laws for Massachusetts.
  • Wear personal protective equipment, review pertinent safety material before conducting new assignments, and perform annual training for reporting procedures.
  • Ensure proper 'Lock-out/Tag-out' procedures are followed.
  • Monitor for and report unusual occurrences.
  • Maintain all equipment in a clean, orderly, and operating condition.
