About The Position

Plans, directs, and oversees the daily operations of a system of large complex multi-purpose power project(s) that includes hydroelectric power plant(s), high voltage switchyard(s), and dam(s) with controlled spillways. This announcement is for current, permanent Army employees that would like to be considered for a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade.

Requirements

  • Ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Maintenance & Remote Operations without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
  • Ability to lead or supervise.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
  • Knowledge of materials.
  • Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Use of measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Direct preventive and break-down maintenance to minimize equipment outage time and maintain maximum availability of equipment.
  • Accomplish maintenance of major equipment at times, and within time limits, coordinated with and allowed by the division.
  • Plan and oversee daily maintenance of a hydroelectric power project to achieve most efficient utilization of equipment and personnel.
  • Participate in planning and development of overall hydropower program by recommending policy changes, maintenance standards, O and M procedures, cost reductions, and personnel management.
  • Direct operations during emergencies, including equipment failures, power system emergencies (black-outs, brown-outs, frequency and voltage disturbance or complete power system collapse).
  • Direct water releases during both abnormal and flood conditions in strict accordance with water release directives provided by Water Management.
  • Participate in the planning and administration of both long and short-range programs relative to major maintenance problems on dam and related equipment.
  • Adjust both routine and emergency dam equipment maintenance outages to minimize impacts to power plant operations.
  • Administer a safety program that covers several high hazard areas such as high voltage electricity, noise, large rotating machinery, respiratory hazards, fall hazards, and drowning hazards.
  • Conduct all work in strict compliance with the Corps' Hazardous Energy Control Procedures.
  • Administer an extensive and complex environmental program.
  • Assure full compliance with EM 385-1-1, Safety and Health Requirements.
