About The Position

This is a temporary position responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks associated with the operation of the CHPP and system maintenance. Assignments include unloading and storing material in the CHPP, assisting higher level operators, and assisting maintenance personnel in maintaining CHPP equipment and machinery. The employee may also be required to perform expediting duties in support of the CHPP operations. The Helper must wear proper PPE for work being performed, keep assigned areas clean and provide communication to Power Plant Operators and Maintenance employees. This is an in-person position located in Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Hourly Rate: $32.82

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • 2 years experience in industrial, construction, mechanical, or maintenance environment Required
  • Work safely following industrial safety protocols, including PPE use and hazard awareness (required proficiency)
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and their usage (required proficiency)
  • Basic troubleshooting to recognize unusual sounds, smells, or vibrations in equipment (required proficiency)
  • Ability to learn new procedures and equipment (required proficiency)
  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures (required proficiency)
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal communication and instructions (required proficiency)
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team (required proficiency)
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people (required proficiency)
  • Basic computer skills (required proficiency)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.

Responsibilities

  • Support power plant operators, coal ash operators, and mechanics in maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Clean plant equipment and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Observe and assist CHPP maintenance personnel in basic maintenance tasks under direction and supervision of an experienced maintenance person.
  • Perform basic inspections on valves, gauges, and other equipment and report any irregularities or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Load and unload coal using basic equipment and assist in feeding fuel to boilers or handling byproducts like ash.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use of proper PPE, participate in safety meetings and trainings and identify hazards or unsafe conditions and report conditions as directed.
  • Assist during emergency shutdowns or equipment failures.
