About The Position

The Power Plant Apprentice position at DuPage County Facilities Management Department offers an opportunity to learn essential skills and competencies related to the operation of the Power Plant. This role is designed for individuals who are part of the Bargaining Unit of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 399, and is specifically open to existing Bargaining Unit Maintenance Technicians. The apprentice will be required to complete coursework necessary for obtaining a Stationary Engineer's license.

Requirements

• A High School Diploma or GED.
• One (1) year experience in maintenance and repair.
• A valid Illinois Driver's License in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repair on a variety of mechanical equipment.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and repair of the Power Plant, the tunnel, and County owned or leased facilities, and related Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
• Move supply items to and from storage areas, racks, or shelves, and assist in checking equipment operation for proper functioning.
• Complete scheduled preventive maintenance, perform scheduled rounds, and record pertinent readings and data to ensure a safe and efficient operation.
• Perform painting and simple plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Inspect building structures and/or equipment.
• Shadow the assigned Stationary Engineer and perform work as directed.
