About The Position

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Counsel to join the GE Vernova Power Litigation team, reporting directly to the GE Vernova Power Executive Counsel, Litigation. The Senior Counsel will lead the response to litigation, arbitration and disputes for all of GE Vernova’s Power businesses globally. While the Power businesses have a wide variety of cases in dozens of countries around the world, the portfolio typically includes major project construction, warranty, product liability and intellectual property matters, with a heavy emphasis on international arbitration. The Senior Counsel will serve as a proactive advisor to Business Segment leaders, General Counsels, and commercial teams across the Power Business, and is expected to have significant engagement with the Senior Leadership team at both the Business Segment and Power levels. In addition, the Senior Counsel will coordinate with the GE Vernova HQ Litigation team on significant matters and ensure the accuracy of GE Vernova corporate reporting with regard to litigation and risk. The role requires top tier legal domain expertise and significant experience resolving complex, high stakes litigation matters; strong communication skills; the ability to analyze and present complex situations in concise, compelling terms to drive crisp decision-making; and a demonstrated ability to develop trusted relationships with senior leaders and across all legal, functional and commercial teams. Successful performance of this role is expected to have a substantial impact on the financial results of the Power Segment, which represents a significant part of GE Vernova’s enterprise overall, by mitigating major claims and reputational risks.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Member in good standing of one or more U.S. state bars or the D.C. bar and, where required, in house counsel registration or admission to the candidate’s local U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum of 7 years of litigation and arbitration experience, preferably in-house or with a reputable law firm.
  • Substantial experience in high stakes litigation and international arbitration matters, ideally involving complex products, projects, or both, and preferably with a leading law firm and/or in-house with a large multinational corporation.
  • Strong demonstrated legal writing acumen and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic judgment addressing complex legal problems and litigation risks consistent with business priorities.
  • Ability to think clearly, work independently, and make critical strategic decisions – all under pressure.
  • Composure to satisfy multiple and often competing interests in an evolving, fast-paced environment while maintaining a high quality of work.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct trial, litigation, and arbitration experience, including both U.S. and international arbitration and litigation, with a proven track record of success.
  • Domain expertise across multiple areas of law impacting the Company, including contract, warranty, product liability, and construction.
  • Experience leading major litigation and arbitration matters as an in-house attorney.

  • French, German, Spanish, or Portuguese language fluency.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage significant, complex litigation, arbitration, and disputes for the Company in the U.S. and globally, with an expected emphasis on major contract, warranty, product liability, and project construction claims.
  • Develop and implement litigation and claim resolution strategies in complex matters in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
  • Provide thoughtful, concise, actionable legal advice to senior management and other internal clients and work collaboratively with these stakeholders to guide strategic decision-making and drive optimal legal and commercial resolutions.
  • Collaborate with business, compliance and commercial-law teams to address potential litigation risks proactively, identify and implement lessons learned, define process improvements, and lead training initiatives.
  • Work as part of the global litigation function to drive policies, simplification initiatives and consistent standards for litigation management and reporting across the Company.
  • Retain and manage outside counsel, ensuring effective and cost-efficient representation.
  • Identify emerging legal trends and developments that may impact the company’s legal and reputational risk exposure.
