We have multiple openings for a Power Grid Engineer to conduct research in the topics of power system modeling and simulation, analysis, planning, operation, resilience, lab testing of devices and integrated systems, and field pilots. You will support LLNL’s Cyber and Infrastructure Resilience (CIR) program’s growing research portfolio in electric grid infrastructure. You will participate in collaborative research projects funded by the Department of Energy and similar, the State of California, and private sectors. These positions are in the Computational Engineering Division (CED), within the Engineering Directorate. These positions will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. In this role you will Conduct research in the topics of power grid modeling and simulation, analysis, planning, operation, monitoring and control, data analytics, power quality, signal processing, resilience, microgrids, HIL lab testing, and field pilots. Present formal and informal overviews of research progress at group meetings. Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internal and external to the Laboratory. Contribute to grant proposals and collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional job responsibilities at the SES.2 level Support complex research projects with competing priorities and implement advanced research concepts in a multidisciplinary team environment where dedication and deadlines are important to project success. Publish research results in external peer-reviewed scientific journals and participate in conferences and workshops. Engage directly with sponsors and partners and participate in development of new program business.
