About The Position

This position is a Local TWU 526 Union role with a pay rate of $35.64. The primary responsibility is to perform major inspections and depot-level maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel engines, ancillary equipment, and power generating equipment. The role involves performing difficult repairs on diesel engines, generators, centrifuges, turbochargers, rectifiers, inverters, and associated generating and distribution equipment. Duties include engine and generating equipment rebuild and repair, major tune-ups, engine alignment, accessory equipment repairs, and testing of repaired equipment prior to resumption of normal service. The technician will bench check repairable components, subassemblies, and solid-state components using test equipment standards, load banks, and other necessary equipment as required by technical data. The technician will determine the extent of repair or rebuilding and accomplish the necessary tasks. Additionally, the role involves testing repaired gauges and meters to ensure adequacy and reliability, interpreting maintenance malfunction data related to electrical power generating systems, and maintaining the tools and equipment in their custody. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion from an electrical power production course (strongly preferred).
  • High School Education or equivalent.
  • Completion of an electrical power production course.
  • Journeyman diesel mechanic experience of not less than five (5) years with stationary diesel engines, including one year on diesel engines of 1000 hp or larger.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Hard-toed safety shoes meeting ASTM F2413-05 standards when entering industrial areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform major inspections and depot-level maintenance and repair of diesel engines and ancillary equipment.
  • Conduct overhaul of diesel engines, generators, centrifuges, turbochargers, rectifiers, inverters, and associated equipment.
  • Rebuild and repair engine and generating equipment, including major tune-ups and engine alignment.
  • Repair accessory equipment and test repaired equipment before normal service resumption.
  • Bench check repairable components and subassemblies using test equipment standards and load banks.
  • Determine the extent of repair or rebuilding required and execute the necessary repairs.
  • Test repaired gauges and meters for adequacy and reliability.
  • Interpret maintenance malfunction data related to electrical power generating systems.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in custody and perform other assigned duties.
