About The Position

Performs highly skilled repair work and leads the work of others in the inspection, repairing, rebuilding and assembly of equipment (large power plant equipment including turbine rotors & stationary components, motors, pumps and fans) sent to the Central Machine Shop and perform the same at other places of temporary assignment

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education and experience.
  • Through a combination of education and/or ability must have sufficient knowledge and skill to perform the duties and/or responsibilities listed above as well as the ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skill to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of the key job in the family.
  • Satisfactorily perform all of the demonstrations of the job.
  • In addition to the above skills expectations third class Power Equipment Mechanics must demonstrate the skills and ability required for promotion to second class within one year from the initial hiring date.
  • EEIMASS - Plant Maintenance Sel Sys
  • Physical demand level is Medium
  • Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position.
  • Progression to 2nd class requires demonstration of required skills, job experience as a Power Equipment Mech 3rd class working in a step-up capacity and overall job experience.

  • Associate degree in technical or scientific field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates as required all bridge cranes, hoists, fork trucks, etc., assigned to the shop and performs equipment rigging and staging, setup for inspection and preparation for shipment.
  • Performs other mechanical maintenance as required including work on the Central Machine Shop building and equipment.
  • Works with 1st and 2nd class PEM personnel or supervisors to further learning of skills needed to move to the next level with demonstration of increasing independence.
  • Depending on the area of expertise, perform mill, lathe and welding equipment setup without assistance for machining / welding in general and with optimal amount of supervision / assistance for all components as needed.
  • Assists, as directed, employees of equal or higher classification in carrying through work assignments
  • Performs all work in accordance with safety regulations and acceptable shop practices.
  • Reports irregularities or abnormal conditions.
  • Take notes, completes required paperwork and keeps records as directed.
  • Maintain quality control standard as established by Central Machine Shop practices.
  • Be able to interpret and work from simple prints and specifications.
  • Learns new skills as shop support grows to meet the needs of customers such as general disassembly of ID fans, cleaning fan components, assisting with the re-assembly of ID fan components and assisting with taking and documenting QC information.
  • Perform work in other qualified areas, (i.e., machinist, welder, motor winder, NDE, pump, fan etc.), as fill in or assistance when not assigned to work in your department.
  • Through a combination of training and learning of skills obtained to perform the duties and responsibilities with satisfactory demonstrations of the competencies contained in this position description.
