About The Position

The Power Equipment Department Head is responsible for leading the in-store operations of the power equipment department, ensuring excellent customer service, proper merchandising, and efficient coordination of sales and service. This role oversees day-to-day sales activities, inventory accuracy, floor displays, and customer repair requests. In addition to supervising part-time team members, the Department Head serves as the store's primary liaison with the corporate buying team to manage inventory levels and product availability. This position plays a vital role in driving department performance, supporting profitability, and maintaining brand standards.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of outdoor power equipment, including functionality, maintenance, and repair.
  • Solid understanding of customer service principles, including needs assessment and satisfaction follow-up.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to diagnose common equipment issues and escalate repairs appropriately.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships across teams and with customers.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-facing retail environment.
  • Proficiency in using point-of-sale systems, basic inventory systems, and communication tools.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts (must maintain active certification)
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and proper handling of store equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in selecting power equipment that meets their needs, both in-store and over the phone.
  • Provide knowledgeable, solution-focused customer service and support throughout the sales cycle.
  • Guide customers through service and repair processes by initiating requests, communicating timelines, and following up as needed.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing displays in accordance with company merchandising standards.
  • Set and rotate seasonal displays and ensure accurate signage, pricing, and promotional messaging.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits to ensure stock accuracy and product availability.
  • Communicate regularly with power equipment buyers to relay inventory levels, product performance, and reorder needs.
  • Supervise and schedule part-time team members assigned to the department.
  • Train and coach team members to uphold customer service and merchandising standards.
  • Coordinate with mechanics, parts departments, and other store leaders to support overall power equipment operations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support department and store objectives.
