About The Position

This is the entry level training position for the power engineering technologist design function off premise classifications. The purpose of this position is to develop an inexperienced candidate to accurately evaluate options and design safe, cost effective, and reliable distribution facilities for residential, area lighting, basic facilities and/or simple maintenance projects. Incumbents are expected to be able to be trained to develop basic skills and expertise in power distribution design and technical tasks. Incumbent is expected to develop sufficient skills to advance to Power Engineering Technologist I or similar position. Local Candidates Preferred ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direct supervision and assistance, the incumbent will be responsible to perform the following duties: Learn, practice and promote ALL safety policies and procedures 100% of the time. Learn client and/or company policies and procedures for the development of site designs for electrical distribution facilities to serve a variety of customer needs. Learn and be trained to prepare site drawings and construction sketches for various installations of electrical facilities in a cost-effective manner that maximizes safety and service reliability Learn and be trained to prepare job packages including material estimates and material requisitions of the materials required for the prepared distribution electrical designs. Learn and be trained to evaluate loading of various equipment components being installed such as transformation or fusing to ensure a cost-effective, safe, and reliable design. Learn and be trained to maintain accurate records and files and update the appropriate client systems with accurate data entry. Supports both company and client's business goals and expectations while representing themselves positively and professionally. Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

High school degree or GED.
0-1 Year(s) Experience in technical field or GIS/CAD.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, operational procedures, etc.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret spread sheets.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Self-motivated, savvy, reliable, trustworthy, as well as technically competent.
Demonstrated team player.
Demonstrated negotiating skills.
Demonstrated time management skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Proficient user of personal computer, particularly Microsoft Office based on applications.
Ability to constructively manage multiple tasks.
Possess valid driver’s license and vehicle suitable for business use (mileage reimbursement may apply).
Ability to participate in storm restoration activities as a “Driver”, “Wire Down Sitter” or “Clerk” if needed.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE is required.

Nice To Haves

Associates degree (AA or equivalent from two-year college or technical school).
Experience in utility field desired.
