About The Position

LG Chem is actively seeking an Industrial Power Distribution Engineer for our new state of the art cathode material manufacturing plant in Clarksville, TN. This role provides engineering support for plant‑owned electrical power infrastructure, including high and medium‑voltage(161KV – 25.9KV) distribution systems and onsite substations. Responsibilities include coordination with local utility providers, supporting maintenance and reliability activities, and ensuring safe, compliant operation of facility electrical systems. This position focuses on industrial manufacturing power systems rather than utility‑scale transmission or grid‑level design. This is an on-site position located at our Cathode Materials Plant in Clarksville, TN.

Requirements

  • Professional Knowledge: Possession of a designated level of mechanical equipment engineering skills or knowledge and the ability to keep up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise. May be acquired through academic, apprenticeship or on-the-job training or a combination of these. Possession of knowledge of statutes/codes/regulations, including understanding of governing codes, industry standards (API, ASME, ISO) and local laws.
  • Engineering Review, Decision Making& Analysis: Knowledge of and ability to use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions and/or reaching conclusions. Ability to make decisions and take action consistent with available facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences.   • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Electrical/Chemical Engineering or equivalent engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety requirement as per OHSA standards and NFPA 70E
  • Ability to demonstrate the use of the following test equipment (Multimeter, Continuity Tester, Megohmmeter (Megger) and Voltage Tester, such as a Fluke
  • 5+ years’ experience in a process environment working with industrial electrical systems High – Medium voltage(161KV – 25.9KV).
  • Working knowledge of the use and application of SCADA, HMI and process data systems.
  • Ability to Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Strong experience and understanding of engineering, maintenance and operation of static mechanical equipment, powder or calcination processing facilities highly desired.
  • Up to 2 times should be expected with this role (Period: 1~4 weeks).
  • Experience supporting or interfacing with onsite industrial substations, including coordination with internal maintenance teams and external service providers.

  • Experience coordinating electrical work with electric utilities related to incoming power service and plant interfaces.
  • Exposure to protective devices and coordination studies at the facility level (non‑transmission, non‑grid).

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise of operation, maintenance and torubleshooting for onsite high and medium‑voltage power distribution systems, including substations, transformers, switchgear(GIS, CGIS, VCB, ACB), breakers, grounding systems, Emergency generator, and protective devices.
  • Manage and conduct inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities (ex, VCB or ACB racking in and out) for plant substation equipment in coordination with maintenance technicians and third‑party service providers.
  • Maintain and review electrical single‑line diagrams, grounding systems, and arc flash documentation associated with plant power systems.
  • Serve as the site engineering point of contact for electrical power issues involving incoming utility service and plant electrical infrastructure.
  • Perform and execute electrical safety, reliability, and lifecycle management initiatives related to substation and power distribution assets.
  • Support the development and implementation of upgrades and modifications to the instrument and control systems
  • Identify and explain ground fault circuit interrupters.
  • Read and interpret Electrical Single Line Diagrams and identify and understand auxiliary circuits associated with each piece of equipment.
  • Test to identify grounds, opens, insulation integrity and shorts.
  • Perform preventative, predictive maintenance and hook-up
  • Troubleshoot and provide engineering support for low‑ and medium‑voltage (LV/MV) power distribution systems, including plant switchgear, transformers, and associated protective equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain instrumentation systems interfacing with various distributive control systems.
  • Performs "troubleshooting" on the production equipment/systems, utilities, in areas of competence such as: Instrumentation and Electronics, Industrial mechanics, Electricity, Pneumatics and Hydraulics, PLC and Computers, Servo Motors and “Variable Frequency Drives” (VFD).
  • Responsible for safely performing emergency and preventative repairs to plant machinery and infrastructure.
  • Responsible for responding to work instructions from the Maintenance Group Leader, respond to emergency or breakdown calls. Diagnosing problems, dismantling, and replacing defective or worn parts, testing of all repairs after replacement before turning over to the operator.
  • Develop and maintain Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems in coordination with PLC systems. // especially Proface (GP-Pro ex) and Mitsubishi (GX Works 2,3)
  • Calibrate, program parameters, and perform initial setup for instruments used in measuring flow, pressure, temperature, and levels, as required.
  • Collects and analyzes downtime data and directly supports recovery plans.
  • Manage commissioning documentation for all projects (i.e. Check sheets / PSSR).
  • Conduct Failure mode effect analysis or similar risk-based assessment, Purchasing components, Spare and other supplies as necessary.
  • Compile maintenance and budget reports for management.
  • Maintain work requests and records on maintenance works using computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Comply with HSSE standards to make workplace a safe place to work, and accountable for all assigned critical activities.
  • Perform Authorized Applicant and/or Authorized Engineer as per Permit to Work (e-PTW) requirement.
  • Follow safety procedures (LOTO, spaces confinement, vertical fall prevention, electrical safety, etc.).
