Facilities Services is a unit in the Campus Operations Division, which is a part of a broad division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third-largest university in the University of North Carolina system with approximately 28,000 full-time students and a staff of approximately 6,000. The university is comprised of 6.2 million square feet of facilities located on 1319 acres with $1.49 billion in physical assets. This includes the Main, Health Sciences, West Research Campuses, and satellite locations associated with university programs. Facilities Services has an annual budget in excess of $30 million and employs over 400 full-time employees. Major functions include facilities maintenance and housekeeping services. Facilities Service's primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance.
