About The Position

Vaco Technology is currently seeking a PowerBuilder Developer for a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity located in Addison, TX 75001. This position requires onsite work 4 days per week (Monday to Thursday). The PowerBuilder Developer will support and enhance core business applications primarily written in PowerBuilder (versions 2017-2019 R3 and 2022) with Enterprise-Level .NET Integrations. The role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving existing applications while contributing to modernization efforts. The developer will be part of a SCRUM team that includes a mix of developers, engineers, QAs, product owners, and SCRUM masters, working on a mission-critical application used by over 5,000 to 6,000 individual users daily. The objective for 2025 is to modernize current applications and assess the migration of databases from on-premises to the cloud.

Requirements

• Proficiency in PowerBuilder (versions 2017-2022) with PowerScript and SQL.
• Experience in event-driven development and database integration.
• Database development skills in SQL Server, T-SQL, and Sybase (with plans to migrate to SQL Server).
• Familiarity with version control systems, preferably GIT or SVN.
• Experience with SCRUM and Agile development methodologies.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with .NET integration with PowerBuilder, including .NET assemblies, web services (APIs), PowerBuilder .NET components, .NET compiler, and .NET Core.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, enhance, and modernize PowerBuilder-based core business applications.
• Support and troubleshoot existing PowerBuilder and .NET components.
• Assist in designing and developing new features and enterprise-level .NET solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure software needs are met.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and high-quality standards.
• Assess Sybase backend with plans for future migration to SQL Server.
