Starting Pay : $18.00 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights and weekends. Position Summary : Engage in the training of the process of selection of birds at designated age based on conformation, physical attributes, and other heritable trait s . This position also trains on the process of assisting in the supervis ing and coordinat ing of activities of Selection crew team members. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months. If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months. Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
  • Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
  • Education: Must be able to read, write, and perform simple math skills.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques .
  • Must regularly lift and/or move, using two Team Members, up to 50 pounds to move items such as bird coops; tools, such as angle iron dolly, may be to occasionally lift and/or move up to 300 pounds such as stacks of bird coops.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift on multiple floor surfaces (i.e. concrete floor, shavings); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns.
  • TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • TM is expected to identify , address and mitigate safety related risks.
  • The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies.
  • Failure to perform this job to above standards could lead to progressive discipline up to and including termination .
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in the training of selection of approximately 2700 pedigree birds daily at designated age based on conformation, physical attributes, and other heritable traits (40%)
  • Trains on r ecording information on touch screen tablet such as genealogy, bird weight, mortality , defects and disposition ; trains on manual recording of information such as bird weight, birds kept, number of birds selected, and birds sen t to dissect ( 30 %)
  • Trains on m onitor ing bird handling, bird transfer, bird welfare, and properly identifying the coop birds are assigned to ; trains on monitoring selection number s and percentage s by line and sex (10%)
  • Washing/sanitizing approximately 100 coops daily via commercial pressure washer on wet / slick floors, maintain clean foot pans in assigned boot room, weekly sanitation of selection break room and all equipment used during selection process (1 0 %)
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities: These may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as : assist with moving birds from brood house to feed conversion or dissection and wash/disinfect vehicles; checking line identification; assist with identifying gender, catching, scanning wing band number, and audit market birds for wing bands; assist in set-up for selection by loading empty coops into house, placing catch frames in pens for easier bird access, hanging of lights for better visual, set up of scales and scanner, making coop labels, placing coops in pens and running needed cords ; properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy (10%)
