About The Position

The Poultry Selection Team Member is responsible for evaluating and grading chickens based on specific genetic traits determined by the genetics team. This role involves routine handling of live poultry, collecting detailed physical measurements, and recording observations into the company database. Team members will work on a two-week rotation across five different farm sites, traveling with the rest of the team as required. This position requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to biosecurity and animal welfare, and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a highly specialized team.

Requirements

  • Ability to accurately record data using the metric system.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and repeatability in physical observations.
  • Proficiency in basic computer use and database entry.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work with cleaning chemicals such as detergents and disinfectants.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 6 hours) and perform repetitive bending, stooping, gripping, and twisting motions.
  • Tolerance for prolonged exposure to dry and dusty environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and critical observation skills.
  • Demonstrated personal responsibility and accountability for performance.
  • Willingness and ability to learn complex selection and grading criteria.
  • Ability and willingness to travel with the team to multiple farm sites on a rotating schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain strict biosecurity and animal welfare standards while working on farms.
  • Handle and interact with live poultry on grow and lay farms.
  • Collect and record detailed data on chickens, including fleshing, body weight, feather quality, oximeter readings, gait, and microNIR measurements.
  • Perform defined physical observations on each animal with accuracy and repeatability.
  • Accurately enter and manage data in the company database using bar code scanners, tablets, and other tools.
  • Identify and relocate selected birds to designated areas.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and work areas to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Travel with the selection team to five farm sites on a two-week rotation schedule.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with other team members.
  • Learn and apply multiple selection and grading criteria as defined by geneticists.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Benefits

  • Pay starts at $16/hour and can increase up to $25/hour based on performance.
