The academic tutor in the Private Schools is responsible for assisting scholars in the core academics. This position is essential for providing support to identified Title I scholars and involves various responsibilities including scheduling tutoring sessions, collaborating with certified teachers, and documenting progress. Regular attendance and a positive attitude towards scholars are crucial for success in this role.

  • Provide support to identified Title I scholars.
  • Administer pre-tests or use existing data to assess Title I scholars and record data appropriately.
  • Collaborate with certified teachers to design educational programs based on test results.
  • Schedule tutoring sessions in consultation with instructional staff.
  • Communicate with staff to ensure coordination of the Title I program.
  • Approach scholars with a positive attitude and expectation of learning.
  • Adjust lessons as needed to help scholars succeed.
  • Document tutoring sessions, including dates, length, and content.
  • Keep a log of time spent on the job.
  • Document parent contact.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-services as appropriate.
  • Assist scholars with homework to improve performance and attitude towards academics.
  • Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (at least 60 credits), or obtained an associate's or higher degree, or achieved a passing score on an MDE approved assessment.
  • Provide an official transcript or a Work Keys certificate before final recommendation.
  • Current teacher certification is required for in-school tutors.
  • Experience working with computers is required.
  • Some positions may require strong technology experience (SMART Board, Document Camera, Read Naturally software, LCD projector).
  • Passion and interest in working with scholars who are struggling with reading and math, primarily in grades 3-8.
  • Previous experience working with at-risk Title I scholars.
