The University of Minnesota is seeking two postdoctoral scientists to join Professor William Gray's lab in the Department of Plant & Microbial Biology. The role focuses on researching how the plant hormone auxin regulates cell expansion during plant growth and development, primarily using the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Supported by a five-year NIH grant, the research will explore the roles and mechanisms of SAUR-PP2C.D control modules in auxin-mediated cell expansion. Candidates will have the opportunity to influence the direction of the research and develop independent projects that can serve as a foundation for their future careers.

  • Independently conduct molecular and genetic experiments, including generation and characterization of Arabidopsis mutants, creation of transgenic plants, protein purification, enzyme and protein interaction assays, and analysis of gene/protein expression/regulation.
  • Prepare results for presentation and publication, including data compilation and figure preparation for manuscripts and presentations.
  • Archive all experiments and generated reagents in accordance with lab conventions, maintaining full records of the work.
  • Assist with laboratory housekeeping duties and prepare communal reagents to ensure efficient lab functioning.
  • Train and supervise undergraduate researchers and new lab members.
  • PhD in genetics, cell/molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience with common molecular techniques such as cloning, PCR, and recombinant protein expression/purification.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design and carry out research projects resulting in publications.
  • Experience with protein purification, mass spectrometry, and confocal microscopy.
  • Broad background in biochemistry and genetics.
  • Prior experience working with plants.
  • Competitive wages, paid holidays, and generous time off.
  • Continuous learning opportunities through professional training and degree-seeking programs supported by the Regents Scholarship.
  • Low-cost medical, dental, and pharmacy plans.
  • Healthcare and dependent care flexible spending accounts.
  • University HSA contributions.
  • Disability and employer-paid life insurance.
  • Employee wellbeing program.
  • Excellent retirement plans with employer contribution.
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) opportunity.
  • Financial counseling services.
  • Employee Assistance Program with eight sessions of counseling at no cost.
