Job Description The Research Oncology group is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Scientist to elucidate fundamental cell cycle mechanisms that underlie tumor cell dependencies.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. (awarded or to be awarded within the next 6 months) in molecular biology, biochemistry, cancer biology or related field.
  • First-author publication(s) in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Think critically and creatively to independently design, execute, analyze, and communicate rigorous experimentation.
  • Experience with cancer cell biology, biochemical methods and molecular biology desired.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity and hands on experience with the human cell cycle
  • Expertise in molecular biology, microscopy, CRISPR/Cas9, and omics-based approaches

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will initiate and lead an independent research project to discover novel mechanisms that control the cell cycle under steady-state conditions and following pharmacological perturbations, elucidating how key cell cycle proteins interact to direct the cell cycle in cancer.
  • This fundamental research will dovetail with drug development programs, and the new pharmacological interventions that emerge, to enable unprecedented views into critical workings of early cell cycle transitions.
  • Work with co-mentors to identify key questions in cancer cell cycle biology and independently draft research plans to answer these questions.
  • Independently execute experiments, analyze data, and review results with co-mentors and the larger research community.
  • Publish impactful findings in top-tier journals and present at scientific conferences.
  • The selected candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment at Gilead through a 3-year fixed term, with access to world-class research facilities and the opportunity to leverage expertise and resources across multiple functional areas.
